This Web site has to be written up daily. I have little time to consider grammar and phrasing as we work in the field, everyday.

Please excuse any errors.

Recent additions to the Chiang Saen Bird List (see checklist).

2008; Lesser Kestrel. Booted Eagle, Daurian Redstart, Russet Sparrow, Hen Harrier.

2007; Long-billed Pipit, Brown-throated Sunbird, , Purple-backed Starling, Banded Broadbill, Swinhoe's Snipe, Indian Nightjar.Emerald cuckoo. 2006; Grass Owl, Brahminy Kite.

Yonok Wetlands is Home to the largest Harrier roost in Thailand and 2nd in the Old World.

Based on currant information available to me, Yonok is surpassed only, by the massive roost of Velavader Gujarat, North West India. The Velavader roost is composed of Montagu’s Harriers , Pallid Harriers and a few Eurasian Marsh Harrier. This makes Yonok the Largest known Roost of Pied Harrier and Eastern Marsh in the world. I need to do more counts but a rough guess is that the numbers are Pied Harrier 250 and Eastern Marsh 200.

Pied Harrier 250 and Eastern Marsh 200.

Further reading; Velavader - World largest Harrier roost.

Floating Raft for Terns; Our River Tern has become very territorial and aggressive. It perused a Spotted Redshank for 2 minutes, mobbed a Buzzard in a nearby tree and various waders. I was talking to Phil Round about this and we agree that it could be worthwhile building a nesting raft. We hope to get the villagers to do the construction and design. Once again we need financial assistance with this project. This is a good way to influence changes towards peoples view of nature, even if birds do not use these platforms they do have a significance.

Story continued: My good friend and New co-teacher Hendrik Jacobs has experience of Tern rafts and we are looking at putting the first raft together shortly. I wish also to thank our project village Tong Far Ham and Mr Bore for granting permission to site the raft on the 1 km fishing lake, adjacent to Yonok Wetland. hendrik has kindly offered to fund this first raft himself, but I think we will have to chip in - How about You..

Bird records; We post all birds of interest daily and probably visit all sites 4-5 times a week. This reflects a fairly accurate record of events.

If you wish to publish our records, please ask our permission and credit us in respect of information used and please place a prominent link to our Yonok Wetlands - Birds & Birding page.

Please read the terms of publication.

Donations; Very welcome, as we are "skint" (details of how to make a donation will, I hope appear soon.

Email: Sorry if I have not replied, we are often to busy to deal with specific requests.
